Stress can be defined as a state of emotional or mental strain which in most cases have adverse effects. A stressed person is prone to psychological breakdown. Many things can cause stress. At the workplace, one can be affected by being unhappy with the job, working for long hours, and working under dangerous conditions. There are also life stresses. These substances affect increasing the stress levels as opposed to the belief of reducing the stress levels. Alcohol is a depressant when taken in large quantities, however, it is not a helpful way of dealing with stress. Getting enough sleep is one of the methods of managing stress. This is so, since lack of enough sleep is capable of causing stress. There are certain relaxation techniques that can assist someone to reduce stress. Majority of these relaxation techniques have been tried and tested.
The other way of dealing with stress is through doing exercise. Stress is characterized by the increasing levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Exercise, therefore, can be used as a surrogate to metabolize excessive stress hormones so that one can reach a more relaxed state. Iit is not, however, necessary that the exercise be vigorous. Brisk walking in fresh air can be very helpful. There are even better benefits of incorporating physical exercise into your daily routine.
Exercise helps in stress management following certain mechanisms. One of these mechanisms is through pumping of endorphins into one’s body. These are neurotransmitters that induce a good feeling to the brain The irritations of the day can be forgotten following an exercise session. Another way on how exercise reduces the stress levels is by improving someone’s mood. Improving the moods of a person is as a result of increased confidence, and lowering symptoms of depression.
